Actual conversation that happened by text just now:

Fiancee: Would you be open to Elkhart Lake or some other quick weekend beach trip this summer?

Me: Yeah, that could be fun.

Fiancee: Great, we can check for deals on Groupon

Me: I’m gonna check the calendar at Road America (sunglasses emoji)

Fiancee: There you go!

There’s a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Only problem is I have stock brakes on my 335xi and I was trying to not buy a bunch more shit for it after all the money I just spent on tint, wheels, tires, and suspension.

Oh and I don’t have a helmet.

Could always just change to some high temp fluid and hope for the best!

I found that the brakes were at best ok (high temp fluid would be good call) but I destroyed my front tires after a day at the track (I am running the optional Pirelli PZero Run Flats) (because warranty).

Have fun!

It’s hard to beat a supportive wife.

That sounded wrong.

I’m lucky enough to have a wife that didn’t balk at my most recent track day expenses, including new helmet and a full brake job. She was a little leery about getting new tires. Her car needs a set before mine.

Best idea: install air brakes instead. Disable the latch on your trunk, replace the gas struts with compressed air servos, rig them, done.

I do have brand new Kumho PS91s which I think would hold up better than runflats, but yeah, the brakes are my concern because I don’t know exactly how old they are. I bought the car used a couple months ago.

Most people don’t know this, but a lot of cars have a secret brake system that stops the car real quick. It’s usually operated by a small lever between the seats.

Ehhh, that’s going to be right after IMSA weekend. I’ve found that doing an event right after a major race weekend can often have a crappy race surface since the high powered car can chew it up pretty bad. I would recommend going with Audi Badger the next week or Badger Bimmers in September.

I highly recommend to not skip out on brakes. You 100% need high temp fluid, and upgrading the pads and rotors would be a good idea. RA is not a track to mess around with brakes that aren’t up for the job.

And, to be honest, I’m giving RA some sideeye for hosting their own events and trying to squeeze out the clubs that have been renting from them for years...

Actually when I posted this I didn’t realize the 8th was a Monday. We’re already both taking time off from work for the wedding so trying to minimize other unessential time off. Between the brake job (and I want to upgrade to stainless lines) and track fee I’d be out almost a grand. Badger Bimmers HPDE in September could be appealing but that’s the weekend before my wedding so no dice.

Realistically I’m going to drive the car until the stock brakes wear out, upgrade them when that happens, and then worry about track events.

But it’s cool that my fiancee is like “yeah go for it!”
